We needed a sofa for our new condo in the mountains in
Mammoth Lakes, California.
So, I went to check out the comfort of
First things first…
I may get one on the way out, too. Hey, it’s NON-FAT.
This Louis Philippe style silvery mirror leaning in the back is huge for just $99…talk about upgrading your full length mirror!
I like this nubby linen sham for $12! And that rose colored swirly matelasse is nice, too.
Can someone use this happy green Oxford stripe for their boy’s room?
We have this floral duvet cover in light blue in one of the bedroom’s in Mammoth.
The combo with the dark grey coverlet is pretty.
The combo with the dark grey coverlet is pretty.
How about this duvet for a young man/teen’s room?
Brighten up a bathroom with a $12.99 bath mat?
I have a few of these in my office…
And I am going to put more in the bathrooms on open shelving in Mammoth.
For $19.99, a couple of these would be great over a work space. I like the shiny grey in back.
These would make my garage look awesome.
You could have a huge party with these $1 glass plates.
At the other end of the pricing spectrum…
Some of my photos have been getting a lot of Pinterest action, like on Beneath My Heart.
Especially, Debbie’s front hall chest.
People have asked it’s origin…and it IS special, French,
and one of only 30 made!
But you could try to refinish your own chest in
turquoise for a similar look.

I love the hanging lights, and baskets. I also like the sofa and chairs with the slipcovers. I would love to have the Pottery barn ones, but these are so much more affordable. Visit site

My daughter had a sofa bed from Ikea in her first apartment..well, it was SO awful to sleep on that we ended up, each time I went there, taking the mattress off the sofa and putting it on the floor. No, I would go for a better quality if you're really going to use it as a bed! Now, hers was not this style, but I beware! On the other hand, I adore Ikea for all those great household items at such incredible prices!

The sofa bed is for my teen-aged son, Tommy…who hardly ever makes it up to Mammoth…he's either in school in Florida or working summers in Newport. I did lay down on the mattress and it was better than an air mattress and you couldn't feel the bar under your back like the kinds I slept on in my 20's. Tommy will probably inherit this sofa when we upgrade in a couple years. We might buy a different place in Mammoth and you would not believe how many sofas I have given away in past moves where they just didn't work. Long winded comment here 🙂

We have an IKEA 10 minutes from our home and I've been there only twice. (I know, I know, can we still be friends?!) The thought of being in there with my kids makes me a little woozy and sometimes I have a hard time seeing the bigger picture of how their things will fit into my style. Now if there was a Ballard store around here…I think I would have a babysitter permanent once a week status!

I love so many of the items you picked especially the coverlet and the light fixture. I usually go there to get accessories and kitchenware. It's always a fun trip to Ikea.

I have those baskets too. Love their stuff, it's the trek through the store that is just a pain sometimes!

It is hard to o to Ikea and not drop money on things you need….plus things you don't need! You just can't beat the price!
The Corson Cottage says
Can't wait to see inside the condo! The exterior looks amazing. Great Ikea finds. I love the Ektorp Ikea sofa too. I have my eye on the Maxwell leather sofa at Restoration Hardware for our new home, for once renovations are complete. However, our budget is probably going to lead us right into the Ektorp sofa in grey from Ikea for a little while at least. Thanks so much for adding The Corson Cottage to your blog list Mary Ann! I'm flattered:) Carrie

Ours in Denver just opened last summer and I've certainly made up for lost time! 🙂 I've been a lot lately and found GREAT items for teen boy's room. I remember loving that turquoise chest the first time you showed it!
Linda @ theLENNOXX says
Oh my that's an awesome pool! Haven't been to Ikea in a while, but after this post I feel the urge 😉 Oh yeah, I bought a pair of sofa chairs about 2 months ago, but that's way in the past ha! As for your turquoise chest, it's to die for! So amazingly beautiful! plus I love the styling, simple yet powerful.

I have an Ikea very close by and have only been once and that was years ago. But after seeing your great finds, I'll definitely have to check it out very soon. And then there's Debbie's chest! I have been drooling over it since you first posted it and I just knew it was something very special! I was right! Can't wait to see your new Mammoth condo when you get it all finished, I know it will be wonderful.

I went this past Sunday. It is about two hours away. I needed and found a stand for my microwave in my pantry bake station. I am so proud that I put it together myself.
Amber B (Simple Dwellings) says
Unfortunately, the closest IKEA is about 4 hours away from here! But I loved shopping there when I lived in Germany. So many great finds! 🙂
Barbara Bussey {The Treasured Home} says
Some brilliant woman suggested entering Ikea from the exit! There has to be a way to shop Ike'a without wanting a gun, before finding the check-out counter! Last time I went, our store was remodeling, which made it even more challenging!! Omg! Anyway, they also have excellent prices for the down pillow inserts I buy for my pillows. Everything comes with a price…ha! Great finds, Mary Ann!

I love Ikea!! It is great for prop shopping… I always find more than I intended when I go in there (in fact, I have my eye on a couple of table bases as we speak!) I love the complex your new condo is in and can't wait to see what you do with it!!!
Jordan@the2seasons says
This makes me want to go to Ikea right now. The closest one is 4 hours away outside NYC. We we go visit my in laws in the city we usually make a stop on the way back upstate and I think we usually end up with a car load. We have had such success at Ikea. We got our table at the scratch and dent section for $50 and we couldn't find anything wrong with it but a tear in the box. 4 years later we are still loving the table. Can't wait to see the condo!

Hi Mary Ann,
Great deal on the sofa! It looks super comfy but WOW.. shipping is so high! I always forget about IKEA as an option for specific items. Those basics are perfect for storage. It's tough to furnish an entire home with expensive French furniture! Speaking of French, I love that turquoise chest with the blue and whites on top. I never would have mixed the two colors (talk about NOT thinking outside the box!)What a gorgeous piece!
On a side note, I grew up in Westlake Village CA and went to Mammoth routinely. Learned how to ski there, celebrated my 21 birthday there, and (after marriage) took our children there! I do miss it.. such a fun little town and I'm sure your condo is perfect.

Hi Mary Ann! So nice to hear from you. Glad you liked the table!
Perusing through your blog and you have done so many wonderful things to your home. Very talented indeed!
We hope to get back to Newport maybe this fall. Funny you left a comment yesterday. My cousin that you met at the Seashore Shanty (her daughter lives in Newport) pulled in at midnight last night. She is moving to Texas from Louisiana!

Hi,
I have not been to Ikea lately, but do have a list in my purse if things I want to pick up. I should go next week. I love the hanging lights, and baskets. I also like the sofa and chairs with the slipcovers. I would love to have the Pottery barn ones, but these are so much more affordable.

I love Ikea. Only ours is so far away, I dont get there very often. Darn. I love those light fixtures for a garage too. I have just ugly light bulbs in my garage. Not pretty at all. I guess a trip to Ikea is in the near future!

I need to go visit for the mirror. Amazing deal, Mary Anne.

Ikea would be a great place to shop for furniture for a second home. Great things with a great price. Cant wait to see what you do…
Town and Country Mom says
We are smack dab in the middle of two Ikeas, one in Charlotte and one in Atlanta–about two hours to either, but I've never been. I'm always intrigued with their catalog, tho. I feel like the trip would be worthwhile just for the glass plates and baskets! Your condo looks beautiful; I can't wait to see pics of your decor!
My Little Bungalow says
I must admit I have never been to an IKEA store. There isn't one near us, and I'm sort of glad for that. We have a small house with limited storage. I feel that if I visited an IKEA store, I would find myself wanting to buy a lot of things I don't need (and don't have room for). I try to keep our "stuff" to a minimum. One day, I might make a trip to an IKEA store because I'm curious to see what they have.

Would you believe I have NEVER been to IKEA? There is not one anywhere close to me- the closest is about 5 hours away. One of these days I am going to make the trek-
Love your new sofa and sooo many great things you showed here- xo Diana

I am headed to Ikea soon! Love the mirror and fun baskets! Your new condo looks amazing. Can't wait for more photos. And have you check out the Mitchell Gold PB Basic sleeper sofa from Pottery Barn? It's really comfortable. We are considering it for our next sofa purchase.

BTW, I love all your choices!

I love Ikea, it was so great for setting up our kids apartments after college. Always find something great there every single time. Do you know about the slipcovers by Bemz? Both of our older kids have Ikea sofas (which are comfortable and holding up well). When the fabric wears out, they will order slipcovers from Bemz, they even offer Belgium linen in beautiful colors!

The secret to Ikea is entering from the exit, much less exhausting.

I'm so glad you posted this about the comfort of the sofa…I'm 99% sure I'm getting one soon and I've heard nothing but great reviews on the Ektorp sofa! I live about 2 1/2 hours from the Atlanta Ikea store so it's always a treat to make a trip over to check it out.
