Our daughter’s boyfriend, is moving to southern California. He’s driving across the country from Washington, DC. So, I thought “Hey, let’s meet him somewhere near the end of his trip.”
Like at the natural beauty of the Grand Canyon (never been there) or,
at the unnatural wonder of Las Vegas
(never been there either).
(never been there either).
Las Vegas?!
Well, that sounded like fun to my daughter, husband, cousin, sister, brother
(you want to come, too?)
and so…
“we’re all goin’ out to meet him when he comes”
(sung by my mom to “she’ll be comin’ around the mountain”).
Staying at THEhotel a part of
Mandalay Bay Resort.
Mandalay Bay Resort.
And look what I got for an early birthday present…tickets from my family to a Rod Stewart concert…
Another aging well rock star, like Kenny Loggins…He’s playing at Caesar’s Palace.
I will try to behave.
Have you ever been to Las Vegas?
Holly says
Love Vegas – we had a great time and despite being pregnant at the time I still had a ball. Hope you all enjoyed!

What a fun road trip! Visited the Grand Canyon when I was about 12 and will never forget it…must put a return trip on my "thing to do" list. My husband and I saw Rod Stewart MANY years ago at the Forum in L.A. and he was wonderful then. I'm sure he's still got IT!!

Fun!! I was in Vegas over the summer for World Market but I didn't get to see any shows – it was all work. Two of my children are coming home this weekend with their boyfriend/girlfriend, one of whom I've never met – should be fun!! Have a great time!

Aren't you fun?? What a great idea and one that will be memorable for years to come. It's funny, the three years we lived in Southern California, I must have realized it was short lived. We went to the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas, both for the first time for the kids and me. We drove to Las Vegas and as we were walking through the lobby of the Venetian, my son said, "I don't get a good feeling about this place." He seriously wanted to get back in the car and drive home. He was okay after lunch at a great restaurant, but was not all that thrilled. What fun you are going to have at the Rod Stewart concert!

Everyone should go to Vegas at least once. Make sure you take it all in and avoid downtown.
diane says
Been to VEgas many many times and after a few trips you get the hang of it and no what to avoid and what to participate in. But the first time is always the best. enjoy and be sure to visit The Venetian…best spot on the strip
Linda @ DesignInMyView says
Rod Stewart! He's my "If he knocked on your door, who would you pack your bags for" famous guy. 🙂
Looking for a group activity that gives a mental challenge and rush? Drive out to Boulder City for a zip line experience. Just a little bit of hiking between platforms. Beautiful views and just down the road is Hoover Dam.
I don't love Vegas, but the food and shows are worth it!
LRS4AMANDA says
I have been to the Grand Canyon once, Vegas twice. Haven't seen either one in 30 years. I'm pretty sure Vegas is completely different now!
Rod Stewart should be so much fun…definitely brings back memories of high school. My girlfriend was in love with him.

Vegas born and raised!. When you live here, " The Strip" really isn't a part of your life unless you work there. We have had a long, hot summer, but the mornings and evenings are starting to cool off and it is really beautiful now.Days are still very warm and have been in the high 90s. Hope that you have a wonderful time. Be sure to stop by Bellagio and see the Conservatory which is now decorated for Autumn, also Yellow Tail is a wonderful sea-food restaurant in Bellagio. Shell is right: Mon Ami Gabi in The Paris Hotel is one of my favorites, but be sure to make reservations. Some of the best shopping and dining in the world. Enjoy. Maggie

I went to Las Vegas once for about 4 hours. I was with friends in Scottsdale for a week and we flew to Las Vegas for dinner then flew back to Scottsdale afterwards. Besides dining, we walked around a bit. It was so much fun to see it all in person! Have fun!

We used to go every fall for a music conference at UNLV. Stopped going in 2010. I second what one of your readers already posted- the Paris hotel has a great restaurant- Mon Ami Gabi…also go up in the Eifel tower at the Hotel Paris at night for a fantastic view of the strip & city lights. Have fun!
Carolyn@Sweet Chaos says
How fun! I went to Vegas on a girls' trip about 8 years ago and stayed at the Paris hotel. We saw Wayne Newton … I figured that was the quintessential Vegas thing to do. Well, let me tell you, it was not good. He couldn't sing at all. The backup singers blew him out of the water. Hope Rod is a better show for you 🙂 Go have a pink limon at the Bellaggio… yum!

Enjoy your weekend!

Never been to Vegas, but keep hoping to run into Roddy (that's the nickname his wife gave him) while he's shopping on Worth Avenue in PB. Most men should be so lucky to age as well as he has.
Safe travels for your daughter's BF.

It's been years since we've been to Vegas. However, two of my best girlfriends moved to nearby Henderson, so a trip there is coming.
Have been to a couple Rod Stewart concerts. Fun!

No never been but dying to go. My husband has been several times for work and I got left behind. Maybe when the kids are a bit older. Looove Rod Stewart – lucky girl!

Hi, Mary Ann….Vegas should be fun! In July we stayed at Bellagio and saw Cirque du Soleil "O"…which was great! We also went to a great restaurant in "Paris" called Mon Ami Gabi…good food and fun people watching. You can also see the Bellagio fountains from there. Enjoy your trip!

I went to Las Vegas last year in conjunction with a trip to the Grand Canyon. You need to visit both at least once. Both are like nowhere else!

I've been going to Vegas since the sixties when we owned property there. Very rat pack then. I was surprised last year when we went how noisey it is on the strip. Loud music coming from everywhere. You'll have a great time. I can take about two days max. Try the craps table. If you stand next to the 'stick man' they'll tell you what to do. It is so much fun to be the shooter with the dice. Report back and have fun!
Karen says
You lucky girl! Rod Stewart is fantastic! Sounds like a great fun trip and to get to meet the boyfriend too…have a great time!
Chris says
Been to the Grand Canyon a couple of times, gorgeous! And to Vegas quite a few times. Vegas of my youth (HA!) was a wide spot in the road, a virtual oasis, a decent sized town but…now? Yikes it is part of a vast-paved wide spot in the road. It has grown to be quiet a metropolis albeit one with lots of growing and shrinking pains.
You'll love the strip at night. Don't be shocked by the hookers who approach your husband while you are right there! Things are tough everywhere! It's tough and gruff, but sparkly, glitzy, interesting and fun to be at the Mandalay…
Yeah, I've been to Las Vegas but I've never lived in PARIS!
Have a blast!
xoxo, Chris
