What I'm Loving & Giveaway!

There are so many things I'm loving at home this summer.
The flowers in these baskets kept dying.  I finally lined them with moss and had drip lines installed and they've been alive for three weeks and are going strong!
Our patio stays reasonably cool with the ocean breezes,
especially in the morning and late afternoon.
We planted lots of lavender in the front of the house...
smells great!

While I was on the patio, I clipped some greenery...
to expand this $3.99 bunch of Trader Joe's flowers.
Love the green of this fern...
not sure how I am keeping it alive though.
Chief is almost three months old and
practically house broken (finger's crossed)
except that
underneath this table...
someone has been chewing on the carpet!

Back to jail.
Think he'll grow into those ears?
Lay off him.

This past Saturday was gloomily overcast, so my husband, mom, sister and I went to the fancy theater with recliner seats and waiter service.  Sometimes it's nice to splurge.
The Way Way Back was funny and endearing.

On Sunday, I organized the linen/pillow closet, watched a
 Jane Austen Marathon on television
and ironed about 200 napkins.  Yay!  Party ready.

And on to the give-away, my friends!
has a fresh and lovely scent in our
kitchen's sitting area...
and I want you to have one, too.

  1. Hi Mary Ann!,,,Your backyard baskets look great! I don't have much of a green thumb either so thanks for the tips. At least the puppy is chewing in a place where you can't see it! Good luck with that!!

  2. I adore votivo candles. They are one of the best! I just bought a new one last week. Candles come and go but they remain one of my favs!

  3. Thanks for sharing such a great giveaway. I love to burn a candle while I'm cleaning the kitchen. I bet that scent smells nice. When our puppy was just a few months old she too enjoyed chewing at my jute rug. Luckily I caught her in time before she completely ruined it. She's a little over a year now and has outgrown most of her mischievous ways.

  4. I've never had a votivo candle -- I'll have to try one! Your puppy is ADORABLE! I guess under the table is better than out in an open space? Your plants look healthy and beautiful!

  14. Omgosh you puppy is adorable! Just precious! I love Jane Austen, I missed the marathon, so sad. How nice to iron on a gloomy day. I will admit, I don't like to iron, but ever once-in-awhile I will iron pillow cases and napkins with a spritz of lavender water and I feel so Domestic, almost like a real Martha Stewart-type!!
Your outdoor area is looking so inviting, I know what you mean about keeping them alive. We get verrrry hot temps in the summer and it is constant watering. Thank goodness hubby has taken on that task now.
    Happy Monday,

  16. HI Mary Ann! OMG... Chief is ADORABLE!!!!! It's so hard to be mad at them when they are that cute! I love all the "little touches" you featured - you have such a good eye for those things - those baskets are lovely and I am sure add to the "cool and serene" vibe of your patio!!! Have subscribed to your feed and will be posting to google plus!

  17. If you can keep a Maiden Hair fern alive, you are truly talented. Way to go!

    ReplyDelete
  18. That is the cutest little face and body in jail!

It makes me feel better knowing that others are needing to iron every so often. I need to do pillowcases right now but have been putting it off. Spraying with lavender linen spray ( from TJ Maxx) makes the task feel more european and chic I must say!

The drip line is smart, very clever of you! Your vignettes are always so fresh and appealing.

Oh that puppy is soooo cute, I know you enjoying lap time when he is not in jail!

  19. I love your hanging baskets. I would like to add some but I'm having a tough time keeping my flowers alive in this heat. Everything looks great. Have a great week!

  35. I was just about to ask about little Chief and how's he was doing, and look who's in this post! What a cutie-pa-tootie he is! But chewing on the new rug....definitely a "no-no"!!! But look at that face....who could get mad at him! Love your pretty yard and plants! You are so lucky that plants LOVE the beach air and grow like weeds! I think the drip lines in your baskets will keep them happy! As far as the 200 napkins....I hate to admit it, but I have just about as many and I find it therapeutic to iron them. They look so nice and fresh when you're done! Have a great week!

  36. Your back yard looks great...perfect for dinner and friends...

  37. Your plants look fantastic...I love the trellis. I also love fillers in my vases and use the overabundance of boxwood we have. Chief is precious...he's a Boston, isn't he? I think you told me already. My daughter has one, a pup, and he is a devil!!

You are making me guilty about the napkins! I roll mine so I have more space in my cabinet and they just look awful when I bring them out! lol!

    Jane

Your beautiful posts are a treat in themselves!

  39. Chief looks more like a baby bunny with those ears!

Thanks for the movie recommendation, always easier to get Hubby to a movie if someone else likes it first. :-)

I have those light blue linen napkins too. And if your slate floor is the blue green (looks like it could be black) ours floors are also the same. I love to iron the top sheets and pillow cases. Hanging the napkins to dry (stretch them out first) is my trick to have them look less formal. When the linen is pressed, I find that my family & guests hesitate to use them and ask for paper!

  46. Hi, Mary Ann,
The backyard is beautiful. I was just thinking about your puppy yesterday - my friend just got a French Bulldog that is just a bit older than Chief. She had to have the trainer come for a few visits but things are much better now!
Thanks for the movie suggestion. It looks cute! What did your mom think about it? I wonder if my mom would like it.
    Have a great day!

  50. Happy Tuesday from another Mary Ann!
Thanks for the greenery 'filler' tip. I'll be trying that with the euonymus trimmings from my garage (it's out of control this year). Your garden wall is simply wonderful, and I LOVE the idea of adding drip lines! I plan to copy that someday, too.

I've been loving your blog for a while now, and I sure wouldn't mind winning one of those candles. I've got a big old Lab/Pit and (even though he smells just fine to me) I suspect my home could benefit from a little extra crisp and clean.

    Thanks for sharing!

  54. Mary Ann,

Your garden wall with the hanging planters is lovely. I love the rusty structure the baskets hang on. Maiden hair fern is one of my favorites (the fern on the table indoors). Your lavender look really healthy, mine never produced as much as last year.
Chief is so darn cute, what'a a bit of carpet among friends?! :D

Your little Chief is too cute. Try putting a piece of hook? side velcro, on the spot he keeps chewing. The industrial strength kind. My daughter tried that with her cats who were clawing the upholstery. She also used clear shipping take to cover the
areas. They didn't like either. Maybe?
