Teen Girl's Hang-out Design

Earlier this year, I was asked to
decorate the "bonus room"
(a room above the garage)for a local client.
It's for two sisters to play video games,
relax, entertain friends...and just hang out.
It needed to be pretty, cool
AND budget friendly.
After reviewing the mom's Pinterest boards, I could tell she liked pops of yellow and pink.

This plan included an inexpensive yellow ottoman from Target and rope ottomans from Crate and Barrel that can serve as as tables or seating.  The wall colors are Benjamin Moore Chelsea Gray and Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter.  The industrial pub table came from Dovetail, but I think West Elm carries a similar one. They can have snacks or play board games here.

The metal stools are from Overstock.com. The Gray Sectional is from IKEA.  The Pink Suzani Pillow Cover is from Etsy.  The yellow geometric pillow was also from Etsy but is no longer available. They already owned the black and white rug from IKEA.
Possible additions/alternates:
and the Love poster is from Etsy.
The Dot PillowCotton Velvet Pillow and
Metal Floor Lamp are from West Elm.
The Foo dogs were from C. Wonder.

Here are before photos.

I emailed the design board and floor plan
BUT did not hear back from the clients.

Oh no???   What's up???

Turns out the girls don't like yellow!!!
Just the mom does and it's not her room.

So....

Version II

They said this plan "nailed it."
Hopefully, I will get
 "after" photos soon...
perhaps when the girls are back in school.

same family's home office makeover HERE.

  4. That is so funny. Every time I think I know what my teen will like, she proves me wrong. Glad the girls are happy.

  5. Fortunately, both options look wonderful and will be a great improvement. It must be frustrating to go to the work and not hear back from a client. Glad it's all back on track and look forward to seeing the 'after'!

  6. Both options are great! Love the artwork in your final design and I also like the The Pink Pagoda giclées. It' whimsical and would have been great had the girls liked the pops of color. The carved wood side table is a great piece! I'm sure they will enjoy their new room:)

  7. I love the pink version, but maybe because I live in a house full of boys I'm a bit starved of pink! Love all your work! x Sharon

  8. I don't like yellow on walls, but somehow I just LOVE it as an accessory color. Hopefully you will be able to use that color scheme for someone else, but I adore the alternative plan you made for them as well….the turquoise with the grey! Lucky girls, this is going to be a great space!

  9. I remember the wonderful office you did in this house and though I love both options, I think the girls will be very happy with the latest blue version. They just need to trust you because your designs are always spot on!!! Can't wait to see it all finished.

  10. Looking forward to seeing their finished project. I love both color variations because I happen to love both colors. I can see the girls liking the trendy turquoise. You and I know it is NOT trendy but the market says it is just now.
Mary Ann, I am old enough, now, to have seen the fashions come and go. I am waiting now for my brass and my peach tiled bathroom floors to come back in style. I think brass may be making a comeback, not sure those tiles ever should have been created. LOL
    Thanks for your prayers,
    Ginger
PS My poodle skirt was turquoise!
