A Stroll Through Life and San Francisco

Darling Marty from A Stroll Thru Life
asked me to be a part of her
 "Show Off & Inspire" series.
You can catch more glimpses of our home there.
My husband and I are in
San Francisco right now staying at

I took these photos with my little camera.
My mom said that it was "Thee Hotel"
when she was younger
and I think it is still cool and grand.
It has opulent Beaux Arts architecture.
(Love the tiger pillows).
The hotel is listed on
U.S. Register of Historic Places.
The Fairmont was designed by Julia Morgan, also the architect of Hearst Castle.
It sits on top of Nob HIll.
Starting with Harry Truman, every U.S. president has stayed at the Fairmont
We have a corner room with these views...
 The weather has been beautiful.
I keep humming "I left my heart in..."

When you visit A Stroll Through Life,
tell Marty I said hello!

Never been to the Fairmont, but I think the opulence and detail speaks for itself, it will be wonderful to stay here next time we got SF!

  6. I'm right there with you. Love the Fairmont, it's been our place since my daughter was about 6 years old. Love your photos, love the city, just don't get there often enough. And, besides everything else I can dress up in San Fran, it's not casual, which I adore. xx's

  10. You're bringing back great memories for me, Mary Ann! My husband and I are celebrating our 11th anniversary next week and the Fairmont SF is where we spent the first few nights of our honeymoon. We had a beautiful suite with that very same view! Hope you're having a fabulous time in a fabulous city!

  19. Beautiful hotel...some day I would love to stay there.

My husband and I were in San Fran in April. We stayed near Union Square, did so much walking. One day we walked to Coit tower and another day through Nob Hill up to Lombard St. My mistake...not bringing enough flats. Had to buy another pair while we were there!

    Have a wonderful stay!

  25. Wow! This is great! It's not often that I get to read about Home. Places that are familiar to me. I am headed for Newport Beach this afternoon around three. Actually a bit farther south at Corona Del Mar. Celebration of Autumn with friends and family..bonfire and all.
My daughter, Dawn and granddaughter, Ireland who has just graduated from Irvine, both live in San Francisco right now and they both love it. I lived there just around the corner from the Fairmont Hotel, back in the 1950's. I remember when Margaret Whiting appeared there so many years ago, and how much I wanted to go see her. but my very young husband, not quite 21 and 17 year old me, didn't get to see her. You had to be twenty one. I lived just off just around the corner on Turk St. It was a wonderful time. Honeymooning and living in San Francisco was fantastic but it was mostly exploring the city and I got to know San Francisco very well. My very first job was at the Strand Theatre on Market... *sigh* so..long ago. 1954 to be exact.
    Hugs,
    Mona

  26. What gorgeous views from your hotel room. I would want to stay in that hotel if I go to SF - it is such a classic. Isn't it the one that was in the TV show "Hotel". I think it is also used in a few scenes in Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo (not sure though). Have a wonderful time.

  27. I love hotels like this which have history and beautiful design details. We stayed in a historic hotel recently in Hanoi, Vietnam. It's lovely to stay in such special places. The views from your room are stunning too. I shall definitely make a note of this glamorous hotel! San Francisco has been on my must-visit list for a while!

  30. I've been to SF many times and it's a thrill every single time I return. How can one not leave their heart there? I love the sense of neighborhood around the city districts and the small businesses. It's always fun to explore as it's always changing and it's so close to some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. I was totally surprised how gorgeous and remote the coast is north up to Pt. Reyes. *sigh* I think I left my heart up there too. xoxo

  31. I'll agree with your Mom;) It is THEE hotel. Such a wonderful city. It's been years since I've been. I like Marilyn's comment.. how can one not leave their heart there? So true! Great shopping, cites, dinning .. and the city isn't too large so it's manageable. Glad you had a nice visit!
