Lilac and Blue Living Room Makeover

Recently, I told you about Lisa's move with her
family to a smaller home near the ocean

We had to downsize quite a bit...
and lighten up for a fresh, beach home vibe.
Liana wraps custom sewn pillows like
beautiful presents that
Lisa was thrilled to open.
They are renting this home so we worked
with the existing butter yellow walls.
As well as, the nine foot sofa from
their previous home.
I thought the scale might be too big, but the
family loves the comfort and it was well made.
We slip covered it and added fresh linen pillows...
The lilac rug, from their previous master bedroom,
was layered over a custom cut seagrass rug.
We used their existing coffee table with some
Pottery Barn accessories like the hurricane and tray.
Restoration Hardware swivel club chairs were ordered
and custom lumbar pillows added.
The gold lamp was updated with a new, black drum shade.
This lavender geode looks pretty with the
new mercury glass lamps.
We dressed up the little lumbar pillows that came
with the dining chairs with some trim
(great idea, Liana).
These occasional chairs were recovered...
with lavender linen in the entry and
 in the living room.

It was important to use, as much as possible, the furniture from
their previous "Tuscan-styled" home... in new ways.

The bone inlay box is from Pottery Barn.
 The tray was tarnished black.
I told Lisa about polishing brass with
Bar Keeper's Friend.

 The club chairs are covered
in Perennials "Fog."
Lisa bought some floor cushions out of the same material for
lounging on the floor while watching television.
It's a really soft and durable...especially for indoor/outdoor fabric.
The family is settled into their
new, light and bright beach home.
 Thanks for visiting.

  1. It looks great and I think everything has been repurposed nicely. That sofa, though large, does look super comfy and inviting. Great job all the way around.

  3. This is just beautiful Mary Ann! I love a good "don't throw the baby out with the bathwater" make over. Most of us can't start over from scratch so it is nice to see a room pulled together with existing pieces and wall color. Great job!

  4. Lilac and blue together! Oh, how I love this- the soft colors AND the reuse of furnishings. As Cathy said, it is nice to see pieces reused which is really what most of us have to do- and in this case is done so beautifully!

  19. Maryanne,
It looks wonderful and I love that you didn't go with a typical white beach look and incorporated many darker tones of wood as well.

  20. What a beautiful transformation Mary Ann! Your classic good taste wins everytime! Can you tell me the fabric on that dark linen embroidered pair of pillows on the sofa? dying over them. Congrats on another stellar job!

    1. My computer is giving me fits! So it wasn't my fault! I thought I was posting my comment for your Sept. 29 post, so removed it and will write on for this post!
You are so good at what you do! This room is wonderful and I love how you used a lot of her own pieces by just updating them. It really is so inviting and currant looking! But my favorite thing is the color combination. Mixing the lilac and blue is gorgeous.
