Art and Fancy Cocktails

It's so great having both our kids with
us for the holidays.
We went to San Francisco's
to view the Anders Zorn,
Sweden's Master Painter, exhibit
(look at the amazing way he could paint water).

It was fun to discover the museum's awesome location
near the Pacific Ocean and opening of the
San Francisco Bay.

The museum's collection consists of lots of
famous works by artists like

 William Adolphe Bouguereau

 Pablo Picasso

 Claude Monet

 Pierre-Auguste Renoir

Often in museums, I look at the wall colors,
floors and ceilings, as much as the art.
I wonder what art would catch your attention.

After the "cul-cha", we drove over to
The Cliff House for a drink
and to enjoy the views.

Alie ordered the "French 77" which the bartender
said had sparkling wine, a splash of St. Germain
(which I want to buy just because I like the bottle)
and the juice of half of one small lemon.
Delicious and festive garnished with a lemon peel...
Alie wants to make these for her New Year's Eve party.

Tommy and Howard had some Robitussin tasting bourbon martini :(

I ordered a refreshing Mojito.

Then, we explored the old bath house ruins.

Later, the four of us walked down the steep hill to
North Beach for a great Italian dinner
(and took the bus back up).
We all agreed that it was a perfect day in San Francisco.

I was worried about us all adjusting to the move,
but I think
2014 will be a happy, new year.
I hope it is for YOU, too!

  1. What a beautiful day! It is great that everyone is adjusting to new surroundings so well! I am enjoying and relating to your blog even more now that you have moved, because we recently moved too. We spent the last year in a rental home, and we went crazy because we couldn't paint or do any personal touches to the house! We moved into our own home in mid October and though there is a lot of work ahead ( we too have "Many Room Challenges" just as you mentioned in your ORC post :-), it's really coming together and we love it. Had fun decorating an entire new space for Christmas! I can't wait to see what other new changes you make in your SF home. Thanks for such an inspiring blog!

  2. Yes please, I'll have one too! The Cliff House on a clear day....splendid!
    Happy New Year,

  3. What a glorious way to spend Christmas! And what about that glorious weather? Looks like a bit of So. Cal has followed you up the coast! I think a trip to SF will be on my "to-do" list for 2014! After all, Kenny's cousin lives there and now…so do you! Undoubtedly, you WILL leave your heart in San Francisco!!! Happy New Year!

  4. It sounds like you and your family had a perfectly wonderful day! As a mother of two sons who are in college, I know how precious it is to spend time with ones children. Thank you for sharing your great pictures.

  5. We live just 60 miles south of this area. It is the Cliff House, not Clift House. ; )

  6. St. Germaine is fabulous! I actually got a fresh bottle for Christmas. It is delicious with prosecco - just add it to the bottom of your flute and pour in your bubbly of choice! So yummy! M.

  7. wow! so lucky to living where you are!! enjoy! Would love to go to the Cliff house someday looks spectacular...happy new year!

  8. Merry Christmas, Mary Ann! Love hearing about your adventures. It looked like a beautiful California day!

  9. Mary Ann, I'm so glad you are settling in and enjoying living in SF. It sounds like you've had a wonderful time with your kids! I have to tell you that all that you've shared of your new city on the blog has inspired me to look into a family vacation starting there, and driving down the coast. We found a great guide for doing that trip with older kids and are hoping to make that our big family trip sometime in 2014. So excited as I've only visited CA once and my kids have only been in the LA airport :) Thank you for sharing your slice of life and inspiring me to get out there! Enjoy your new locale and adventures that await you there!

  10. It sounds like you are having a wonderful time, and so much fun exploring your new city! As long as your sweet family is around, all is perfect! I wish you the best in the New Year and that you continue to fall in love with SF and meet lots of new friends who realize how talented you are! xo Nancy

  11. What lovely family time! It's been over 10 years since I was in S.F. Putting the Legion of Honor Museum on my list for the next trip. And perhaps we can finally meet in person, Mary Ann? I'd like that!
    Cheers to 2014!! Stay fabulous!

  12. Anders Zorn is one of my all time favorites. He was an incredible portrait painter.

  13. One of my favorite cities and you went to some of favorite haunts. The Legion of Honor Museum is awesome and they always have world class exhibits.
The water in Anders Zorn's work is unbelievable.
    Thanks for sharing, Ginger

  14. Thanks for the nice museum tour. I love that first painting you featured -- it's amazing how he painted the water! I've never been to San Francisco, and I really look forward to visiting some time. Before my husband's brother passed away, he used to visit him there, and he loves the city. I'm hoping we will be able to make a trip there soon. I'm glad you're happy in your new town. Happy New Year to you!

  15. What a wonderful tour, and of course, what a nice time for all of you! The Cliff House…wow, it's been years since I've been there. A very Happy New Year to you Mary Ann and all best wishes.

  16. Mary Ann, Looks like you are enjoying your home in SF! I am so behind on reading blogs. I just caught up on all your posts. Love the apartment and what you did with it. What a fab location and views! Hope you are enjoying Christmas and Happy New Year too! xx Kim

  17. Now that is a perfect day! The paintings are incredible...what a treat then to polish it off with a trip to that amazing looking restaurant, The Cliff House is the icing on the cake!! So much beauty....thanks for taking us along.

  19. Mary Ann, I hope you had a lovely Christmas and may all your wishes for 2014 come true!

  21. Sounds like a perfect day! If I ever get to the Cliff House I'm ordering a French 77! :)

  22. I must look for St. Germaine, lovely post and one of my favorite cities. Love the art you chose for the first photo....Debra

  23. Wow! I haven't been to the Cliff House in forever! WHAT an improvement. Gorgeous! I've got to get to the shop, but will return for more. Makes me miss our little get-away in San Francisco!

  24. Great minds think alike... I just bought some St. Germaine because I liked the bottle! A friend gave me the recipe for this same drink although I haven't tried it yet.

It's SO nice to hear from you!
