Mexican Fiesta for Our Mamasita

On Sunday, we celebrated my mom's 90th birthday.
We tied up 90 balloons (took three small SUV car loads, in case you are interested).
It was a gorgeous day in San Diego...but we really do need rain over the whole state.
Got to have a piñata at a fiesta.
Our daughter, Alexandra followed this video to make paper flowers for the tables.

Have you heard about Taco Trucks that set up in your garden and cook a Mexican feast for you?  It may be a Southern California thing.  Our guy, Rolando (email address: gana_loves@yahoo.com) was amazing!  I forgot to take photos but he cooked and set up a delicious and reasonably priced buffet that fed 70 of us.

Mom is on the left with her two best friends.

We toasted s'mores over the fire pit for dessert
(after birthday cake!).
Thanks to all of you who travelled so far to celebrate with us.
We love you.

  2. What a great celebration! 90, what an honor! I think the Taco guy may be a so cal thing and it's the best idea ever. I have had one at a party, and it's so enjoyable to be able to party along side the guests. Can't wait to see what 91 looks like.

  6. Congrats to your mom. My dad will be a very young and full of energy 92 on Tuesday. I don't know how he does it after being shot three times on three separate occasions in WWII. Yes, I've heard of taco trucks. Our son and daughter-in-law had one arrive at their outdoor wedding around 10 pm this summer in case a guest wanted a snack after the caterers left. It was a huge success. That was in Nebraska.

  12. Belated happy birthday to your beautiful mom! Now I know where you get your looks from Mary Ann! Love the festive atmosphere and laid-back feel of the party! And yes, Taco Trucks would be a fantastic way to take care of super yummy food for a party like this!

  13. Happy Birthday to your sweet Mom! Your party looked like a success and ..wow!.. all those balloons! Those taco trucks are the best and I do miss Mexican food. Seattle is getting there but CA rules in that department ;} Looks like incredible weather. My Mom still lives in S. CA and so I get the weather report. Rain is always needed. Our winter has been mild and we received almost no snow which is so unusual. It will be a dry summer and we will miss the snow pack.

Enjoy the rest of your week Mary Ann! xxleslie

  14. Perfect way to celebrate you mom's 90th birthday! So festive and colorful and I love all your fun creative touches like Allie's paper flowers. I remember making those many years ago! And what a great idea to have a Taco truck cater the party! I hope if you had any east coast guests that they were blown away with the gorgeous So Cal weather! Are we lucky or what? However, I continue my rain dance daily!!!
    Adios Amiga!
