SUMMER FUN: Phone Apps, Pillows, Strawberry Cake, Décor...

My mom, sister, brother and their dogs were visiting over Memorial Day weekend.  We tried to show them a good time!  Including walking the dogs to the nearby park with this clever gift...
Let's keep this a secret in case it's questionable legally.

See the words above on my photos?   I could just go crazy with the Over App.  Fun for personalizing your photos on your phone.  Try it for $1.99.

Make this easy, fresh strawberry cake from Smitten Kitchen.  I added some blue berries (patriotic) and served it with fresh strawberries and whipped cream.

My client, Juliet's cute bench seat is back from the upholsterer, with a colorful Duralee indoor/outdoor fabric and top stitching.
It coordinates with the indoor/outdoor Dash and Albert rug.  This area leads out to their pool.

We needed artwork for the new Pottery Barn frames in Juliet's bedroom.  I love that she used the Waterlogue app on photos from her pretty garden.

New teal velvet pillows made by Liana arrived.  AND I can't wait to show you her colorful living room that is in the works.

Speaking of pillows...check out my new Suzanne Kasler for Lee Jofa Athenee Velvet pillows.  Liana said the velvet feels as soft as a new puppy! The fun circle fabric is also by Lee Jofa Threads.

On the other sofa, we have two fabrics from Lee Jofa: Aerin in  Meadowood Mist and Marila.  The cotton paisley tones down the formality of the lovely embroidered linen.

Notice the little corner pleat?

Howard and I were invited to go to the Warriors game last night and WOOHOO--WE WON!  ON TO THE NBA FINALS!
Today, I was in Pottery Barn to pick up a couple things and isn't this outdoor table setting pretty?

20% off right now.

May I get your opinion, please?  Do you prefer shorter posts more often or longer ones (like this one) less frequently, say once or twice a week?  Our email inboxes get so filled up, that I prefer fewer and longer.  But if you could let me know your thoughts in the comments here or at madamepickett@msn.com I would appreciate it!

Thanks for visiting!

  1. I feel you should post when you have the time. You covered quite a lot of info in this post. I know most bloggers would have had a different post for each topic. This was short and sweet.

    1. Thanks for your input, Patty. This blog is a creative outlet and not a real money maker for me. Mostly, it is a great opportunity to create with people like you!

    1. You are so kind, Brenda. Thanks. Means a lot to me. Mostly as my posts are a bit of work--to organize my thoughts and try to get pretty photos.

  4. I look so forward to your posts and I think one thing I appreciate is that they seem to be so organic. I never get the feeling like you're looking for things to create a post; rather, it's just the life you are living and how you can include real life posts to share what you're working on, or things that you know your audience responds to. I am a huge blog fan of Classic*Casual*Home, and when I see your post in my inbox, it is THE priority. Love your style, your incredible class and I appreciate so much that you are willing to share your family photos with us. XO Nan

    1. WOW, Nan, you are the best! And exactly right. Normally my posts are just what I am doing at the time…and what is interesting me. And what I think might be good for a friend like you!

  5. Love getting your post! I think I prefer longer posts a couple times a week. I don't know how bloggers post daily! I admire them but know I couldn't do that.

  10. Long or short, your posts are a welcome sight in my in-box. Love the images of San Fransisco(fellow Californian), snaps of Chief, family and friends, decor inspiration, food and entertaining ideas. Whatever creative spirit inspires, it is always a happy gift received. Thank you

  13. Hi Mary Ann- I know this doesn't answer the question--but like everyone else I just LOVE your blog post no matter the length. I just want you to keep blogging! Do what works for you--I love your style and pick up new things from you all the time!

  14. I think Nan Parker said it best! Your blog is my #1 favorite and trumps anything else in my "in-box"!! Your posts are always the perfect, not too long, not too short...but just right!!! Whatever works into your schedule will continue to make your followers very happy!!

As for today's post, such happy doggies, especially your cute little Chief. He looks so proud to be sharing his "territory" with his friends. They're humans were obviously happy too, with their "wine-to-go"! Great gift idea!
Love your clients "Waterlogue" prints, especially the wide matting! Great idea for inexpensive art! Of course,
seeing your projects come to life is always fun, pillows are one of my favs! But it's the cake, definitely will try this summer for a special outdoor dinner party!

Thanks so much Mary Ann for the many hours you put into your blog to give your readers so much joy!

    xoxo Gail

  17. Mary Ann,
Love the app that allows you to overwrite on your photos. There are bloggers that do that and I've never had the tech skills to know how. This sounds easy.
The Chard sippy cups are great...that might be something I have to look into. :-)
The pillows and work you do always has a wow factor. I love it!
I really like your posts no matter what, but I confess, too many to read end up feeling like homework sometimes. I vote for a longer post less frequently, but your posts are always a must read.
    xo,
    Karen

  18. As for your question, do your blog whenever whatever way you want, you're the boss. As for Chief, that picture is worth a thousand or two words. Something like: I know I'm supposed to be polite, but I can't wait for these dawgs to go home so I can return to being the human I really am. And for the Clippers: my Thunder is out, so I'm a Clipper (Blake Griffith being an OU guy) if for no other reason to see more press conferences staring Reily Curry! Too much fun.

  20. Longer is my pick! Always love each and every one.

  21. I always love your posts but longer less frequent posts are my preference.

  22. I kind of go through CCH withdrawal so I'd prefer a short post rather than nothing, but I can't complain at all about any of your posts. Your style is just what I try to put together in my home and I love all your posts, long or short. Still working on my beachy living room redo... off to buy a white-slipcovered Ektorp for myself today while dear husband is home to help me haul it!

  23. Absolutely love that photo of the dogs...the expression on Chief's face is hilarious! And those wine to go cups are awesome!! Sort of an "adult" sippy cup!

I enjoy all your posts but I'm thinking longer and less often? I do get a barrage of emails on a daily basis...however, yours is one of the few I actually LIKE to see in my in box!

    1. Linda, Chief is terrified of Ginger (older female)--she growls at him and won't let him get near her--hence, the body language :)

  24. I am up for anything you are interested in or are doing. My preference is for longer posts less frequently. BTW, I am in love with the Suzanne Kasler Lee Jofa Athenee velvet pillows...and what could be better than the feel of a soft puppy.

  25. I like fewer less frequently. I love the pillows and fabric too. Fabric adds so much to a space-color, texture, graphics. As far as I'm concerned, it's everything.

  26. Mary Ann, I LOVE the Waterlogue idea. Did she print them on photo paper or another kind of paper (something special)? Please let me know, I can't wait to copy! :) Lisa

  27. I look forward to all of your posts, whether small or large in length! You have a wonderful "voice" & always seem so real & unpretentious. My husband knows you as "the lady who moved from Lido up to San Francisco"! We live in Huntington Beach & actually saw you walking Rocky one day while we were visitng friends in Lido! We have a Boston too, Scarlett, who is 10. Chief is darling & we always enjoy seeing photos of him. I often make a recipe you posted from Fd & Wine magazine months ago for Veal with Spring Vegetables (but I use chicken) so all of our family/friends who have enjoyed that dish like you too! :) Best,

    Kathy

  29. That picture of Chief and his buddies is the best! Oh if Hope only knew what she was missing out on she would probably do anything to be a California dog :) I love all of your posts both short and long - I'm with Judie - just keep on doing what you're doing!

  30. I'm for whatever YOU feel like doing, however longer, but less frequent is my preference. Sometimes my inbox is overwhelming and I cancel subscriptions just to relax!

  31. You know what my opinion is! Longer and less frequent. I agree with whomever said too many posts feel like homework!! Now I need those wine glasses! I am posting this puppy on facebook!!
