BANQUETTES: Everyones' Favorite Place to Gather

People like to gather in the kitchen, right?  And with a banquette/breakfast nook it is especially inviting.  They can be cosy, comfortable and a good use of space!
This oil painting gave us a jumping off point for my client, Carolyn's new kitchen banquette.
The table and chairs are from Design Within Reach.  The bench seat is covered in Perennials Tisket Tasket in Sea Salt (bring on the food spills--who cares).

Pottery Barn makes the black wooden tray.  It was on sale recently in the store.   The damask pillow fabric is by Ralph Lauren.  The dot linen (Knot Along Iris by Robert Allen) reverses to the Kravet stripe on the other side.
It's a good idea to sometimes fill in with less expensive pillows like the white ones from Pottery Barn.  Here you can see Carolyn has set the table for a little dinner party.

This is my favorite place to "chill" at Debbie's house...

And I love Clair's custom banquette at her beach condo.
Other cozy spots...

I highly recommend a banquet in a kitchen if it works in the space!

One more thing... my good friend is anticipating the birth of her first grandchild.
Isn't this a cute photo?

  2. I love a banquette, and have actually considered one for our new home, if not a banquette, maybe a bench. Have to wait to see if it will work once we move in, but having fun making plans and sourcing. I have a banquette pinboard if you want to see a few more picts for inspiration......https://www.etsy.com/listing/221590338/dana-gibson-pillow-cover-in-canton?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=Dana%20Gibson%20pillow&ref=sr_gallery_4

  5. Hmmmmm We seriously considered a banquette for our then new house eating, dining area off the kitchen. But in the end we opted for armchairs and an upholstered bench. I really thought long and hard about it. The banquette is just too difficult to maneuver several times a day! I would want cushions and then thought they would stick to clothing as you "slid" in and out. I would want stationary pillows at back and not throw pillows, and it all just got too complicated! I am interested to see how these all DO work, and they look fabulous. Do you ever hear anyone say its too difficult to get in and out? Maybe I'm totally off the mark here! Looking forward to hearing what everyone says! thanks....

    1. We had a banquette in our Winter Park, Florida home and it was everyone's favorite place. I would definitely do it again, Libby. But an upholstered bench is nice too.

  16. I couldn't believe that you posted about banquettes, Kenny came home the day before and said a client wanted him to build a banquette! So your pics and measurements were a perfect reference for him. I'm dying to redo my kitchen banquette just like Carolyn's! Just need to find great fabrics and time to sew pillows!
