Maximizing A Guest Room--Blue and White Before and After

When Melina's son left for college, we had the opportunity to fix up his room.  While keeping it masculine, it also serves as a guest room now.

First, the walls were painted Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter.
Her son helped pick out the  Filmore upholstered bed from Pottery Barn.
It's a small room but we managed to get a queen sized bed in here (he is a tall man now) with two campaign style end tables.
The swing arm sconces (easy to install since they are not hardwired) free up table space to display their son's mementos.  The bed linens by Tommy Hilfiger are on sale at Macy's.
He won't be studying much at home anymore so we replaced the desk with a tall dresser in black.   And now he also has a place to put on his shoes...  love this compact tufted chair.
Melina's son likes coming home to his comfortable new room.
Also at Melina's house...her pillows arrived for her dining room host chairs.  This Ralph Lauren La Garoupe linen is gorgeous.

Remember the before and after of this dining room here.

And this is so sweet.  Melina gave me this beautiful book as a gift!
We are finished for now at Melina's house.  I miss her already!

  1. The bedroom is lovely and I love that pop of blue in the dining room. That RL fabric is gorgeous!!

  2. Great job....just a little blue and white made it pop...nicely done!

  3. Perfect guest room ....and when her son comes home it works beautifully!

  4. It's perfect and cozy! Another great job Mary Ann!

  5. Mary Ann,
This is so pretty. Love the dining room too.

  6. Love the son's room Mary Ann! And I will be taking notes since I am in the exact same spot! My son left for college two years ago but I didn't do anything right away because I didn't want him to think that he was being pushed out! However, this summer he didn't even come home and I know that that will happen more and more. So I want to make his bedroom a little less "teen" so my mom and other family can stay in it when he's not here.

You did the perfect job Mary Ann!

    1. Thanks, Sheila. I bet your son will like a refreshed room even when he comes home infrequently.

  7. FABULOUS! I have two in college now and am itching to "fluff" up the space!!!

  8. Melina (and son) must be thrilled with their new space! It looks comfy, classy and inviting. Wonderful job!

  9. Mary Ann I love the color palette, so crisp and comfortable!! Beautifully done!

  10. Beautiful job Mary Ann! I need ideas for our guest room and this gives me some inspiration! Is the wall color Revere Pewter? The first photo they look more gray, but the other photos it looks more beige! I'm sure it's just the lighting
in the room! As always, I love it!
