Dining Room Refresh Without Starting Over!

Is your dining room looking a little dated?   Not many people can afford to toss everything and start over, right?

If you have followed this blog for a while...you know I like to use what people have.  In this case, Jackie had too much matching brown furniture...and she wanted a more casual feel for their Southern California lifestyle.
These were photos she sent me so we could work together by e-design.
Jackie wanted a new foyer flush mounted light fixture and because I can't help myself...I said "Hey, what about painting your oak coat rack and front doors, too?"  Cute dogs, by the way.
And AFTER
...her husband got to work...what a wonderful man!  It's not easy to get guys to paint stain.  Looks more coastal.
Here is the mood board...

And after ...
the walls and ceiling were painted and RH Botanicals hung...

The brown chest that was here before was replaced with a lighter console....with lots of room for serving food or setting up a bar.
The chairs were recovered on Ralph Lauren Pemba Lapis.
and RH host chairs added.  Oh, and the big difference, I think, was the china hutch was painted.
We still need the curtains hung just below the moulding a...but hey, these guys did a lot...Bravo to them!
Jackie, you may want to put the pretty candle sticks back on the table.

And we used things they had...like this mirror.
I'm accompanying my husband on a trip to Moscow, Paris and London...part business for him and part fun for both of us (especially the Paris part).  Follow on Instagram :)

Thanks for visiting.

  5. This is just wonderful BECAUSE you used things they already have. It's them but better--like a new, really flattering haircut, as opposed to plastic surgery. It turned out great. The slight change in colors brings it up to date but not in a way that will look out of style in five or 10 years or that they will get tired of.
Bon voyage! Some day when you're in France you'll have to come down to Carcassonne.

  7. Nice change. I'd love to see a planter filled with hydrangea blooms on the dining table for some color. Enjoy your trip:)

  10. I love the fact that you tried to use existing pieces. Paint sure goes a long way, doesn't it. The room looks so much better not that everything isn't so matchy-matchy. Great job! The space has such a wonderful feel.
