I’ve always wanted to go to South America and “I’m livin’ the dream” (tagging along on my husband’s business trip).
First stop, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This was the view of Copacabana Beach from our hotel. In our first room, our air conditioning didn’t work (it’s HOT here) and it was a bit of a hassle to get a better room. But once we did, the view, fancy breakfast buffet (included) and flowers made up for it.
They speak Portuguese. I don’t, but enjoy “winging it” with Spanish, French and English mixed with sign language. I was told to wear only costume jewelry…why take any chances? It feels funny without my wedding ring.
The first day we went to the beautiful Botonical Gardens.
And did a little shopping. They make my favorite flip flops in Brazil.
We took a tour to the top of Sugar Loaf and the Corcovado where the Christ the Redeemer statue sits.
It was a rainy day but still spectacular. It seems wherever you are in the city, you see Jesus.
Unfortunately, we’ve already had fraudulent activity on our Mastercard. However, Mastercard declined those charges. But now we can’t use the card. We’ve only used it three places in Brazil. People we are with (who come to South America often) say this is a common occurrence for travelers. I guess it’s better to use cash but who wants to carry that around?
Now we are in Argentina in a cool hotel with lots velvet partitions and original art.
Buenos Aires has a European and cosmopolitan flair. I will have more interiors in my next post.
I’m not sure that Chief is missing us much while he is hanging out with Mom B (fyi, our daughter, Alie, wants to be called Alexandra now). Glad he is feeling better though.
